Shock as Renowned South African DJ Gunned Down in Johannesburg.
A renowned South African media personality and entertainer has been shot dead in the country's largest city Johannesburg, sending shockwaves across a country battling persistent crime.
Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on a Tuesday afternoon.
Authorities reported the forty-year-old media personality was confronted by a trio of assailants, one of whom began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear and no suspects have been apprehended have been made, police said.
How It Happened
Authorities said that Stock was ambushed as he was exiting a location near the Carlton Centre.
He had spent several hours at the property managing the installation of security systems, which had been reportedly taken over by unknown people, it was reported.
"It is alleged the victim was confronted by three unknown suspects after parking his vehicle, and they shot at him before running from the location on foot," a police statement confirmed.
Surveillance tape reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a guard's attire opening fire on Stock before fleeing.
The DJ attempted to flee after he was hit but collapsed on the opposite side of the road.
Police added that Stock had an gun that was not fired and nothing was taken during the attack.
Important clues, like bullet casings, were discovered at the crime scene.
Call for Public Assistance
Police have appealed anyone who saw the event who may have witnessed the attack to assist with the investigation.
"We know they covered significant ground after the shooting, and police have been tracking them to establish their whereabouts," remarked an authority figure.
Outpouring of Grief
His sister, a close relative, said the family was struggling to understand the tragedy.
"I am devastated. I don't have words," she stated.
"Everyone understood he was a representative for countless citizens. He addressed issues courageously about topics not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
She appealed to the citizens to refrain from sharing explicit content from the incident, noting this was an extremely painful time, above all for Stock's young family.

Stock was the host of Ngicel' iVisa, a television program that premiered on a popular local broadcasting platform.
In addition to his media career, Stock was active in various entrepreneurial pursuits, including protective services, offering elite guarding services and managing safety for high-profile events across South Africa.

A senior figure said he was outraged and heartbroken by Stock's untimely death.
"He was forthright fearlessly and impartially. He even challenged me and my decisions as a minister. He was a true embodiment of who we ought to be," he stated.
A party figurehead stated the "shocking killing of DJ Warras in the middle of the day is a trauma for all South Africans".
A broadcasting director said that "Stock was not merely a face of a reality series. He was a gifted communicator, a passionate music lover and a generous spirit who brought excitement and dynamism to every appearance. His dedication to creativity left an indefinable mark."
In a release, the broadcaster he worked for said Stock was known for his charisma, approachability and intelligent commentary, adding that his memory "will live on".
