Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller in a permanent move from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has half a year left on her contract, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having netted over 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League team.

Departure from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Attack

The 28-year-old’s arrival should represent a major boost to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a club in the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
