Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Ignites Heated Debates Over AI Players, Experience Points, and Wait Times
Recently, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Casual Breakthrough. In essence, this mode resembles the standard Breakthrough format but features several key changes:
- Each team has just 8 human participants, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
- Actions done by real players grant full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
- Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
- Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, since it gives more options for gamers looking for alternative methods to enjoy the game. However, if video games has shown one thing, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are mad.
Player Reactions: Anger to Praise
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," says a different user. At the same time, in community forums, a player remarks, "It's unclear where we are headed with this game," and someone else lists everything they consider to be problematic in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, fix [the] bloom after sprinting bug, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, some gamers explaining how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community fails to see that there are players who actually go outside and don't play this game 24/7. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds another. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is perfect for me," while someone else applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Constructive Concerns and Community Feedback
All that said, there are valid points to complain about Casual Breakthrough. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the large amount of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the current modes. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, despite it focuses mostly on fighting AI opponents.
Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was meant to offer full XP, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the mode. So this new playlist feels like the community meeting them halfway, according to a Reddit comment. Another describes this addition as the devs "making a mistake significantly, I experienced so much fun in the first couple of days, what prompted them to change it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Occur?
If the development team has demonstrated something so far with the latest installment, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks that were overly hard got fixed rapidly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data indicates this recent mode is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to change it again.
